AROUND THE WORLD 2013 – SCOTLAND

Our Together Wee Can events have truly been enriching to the children, getting them involved in family and child related events.  Everyone has been eagerly anticipating what was in store for our Together Wee Can – Around the World in 2013!  We will be traveling to 12 different countries learning about each of their customs, culture, foods, games, geography, history and celebrations.

In January, Wee Watch Providers and children began their trip around the world to the beautiful country of Scotland!!

During circle time, children compared our weather with Scotland’s and had an opportunity to talk about foods, games and celebrations such as Robbie Burns’ Day on January 25.

First stop, children were able to let their creativity flourish with decorating their cabers and creating their own tartans!  It was great to see the different choices in colours and the steady eye-hand coordination used in painting lines on their pages.

Next stop, the children worked on their gross motor skills by learning how to toss their decorated cabers and do some highland dancing.  What fun!  Many homes also brought out the mini golf sets and had the children practice their golfing skills.  We have many avid golfers in our midst!

Parents also got into the spirit and had the children wear something blue to daycare while the children worked on colouring Scotland’s Flag and gluing fluffy sheep.  To end the festivities for the month, Providers and children made Scottish Shortbread.  Everyone was amazed as to how only 3 ingredients can taste so yummy!!
